GOSSIP: Dean John Wilson & Jade Ewen in talks to star in Aladdin?

The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye has claimed that Dean John Wilson and Jade Ewen are in "early discussions" to star as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine in the West End production of Aladdin.

It was recently announced that Broadway actor Trevor Dion Nicholas will star as the Genie when Aladdin opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on 9th June 2016 (previews from 27th May).

Disney's stage production of Aladdin is directed and choreographed by The Book of Mormon's Casey Nicholaw and composed by Alan Menken. It features lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, with book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The production opened on Broadway in March 2014.

Speaking to West End Frame during a recent interview, John Wilson said: "I know that Aladdin’s coming to town; I’ve seen a lot of clips of it on Broadway and would love to play that role. It would be incredible! He’s got some amazing tunes. There are a lot of people out there, so all I can do is go into an audition and be as prepared as possible and give it my best shot."

John Wilson recently played Man 1 in Adam Lenson’s production of Songs For A New World by Jason Robert Brown at the St James Theatre. His theatre credits also include: Aquino in the UK premiere of Here Lies Love (National Theatre), understudy Prewitt and Maggio in From Here To Eternity (Shaftesbury), Zack in Bare (Union Theatre) and understudy Pablo and TJ in Sister Act The Musical (UK tour). He also reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2008.

Ewen is currently playing Vanessa in In The Heights at the King's Cross Theatre. Her theatre credits include: Clara in Porgy and Bess (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) and Dee Dee in Tonight’s The Night (UK tour). She was a member of British girl group The Sugababes and represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest with Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2009.
