Hedwig and the Angry Inch announces Broadway closure

The Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch starring Taye Diggs (pictured right) will close at the Belasco Theatre on 13th September 2015.

The musical will close after 22 previews and 506 regular performances. Hedwig and the Angry Inch will launch a U.S. tour in October 2016. The show is rumoured to be transferring to the West End and Australia.

John Cameron Mitchell recently revealed that Hedwig and the Angry Inch is “definitely coming to the West End”. Cameron Mitchell said they are “trying to get the right person” to star in the show, cryptically revealing that the “person isn’t a Brit…but could very well be.”

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a raucous musical comedy that tells the story of a fictional rock 'n' roll band, fronted by Hedwig, a transgender woman and “internationally ignored song stylist” from East Berlin. The show won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
