Young Vic announces first two 2016 shows + return of Mike Bartlett's Bull

The Young Vic has announced the first two shows in its 2016 season.

The UK premiere of Battlefield, a new work directed by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne, inspired by Brook’s legendary production of The Mahabharata, will play at the Young Vic from 3rd to 27th February 2016.

Annie Ryan’s acclaimed stage adaptation of Eimear McBride’s A Girl is a Half-formed Thing will have its London premiere in the Maria studio between 17th February and 19th March 2016, following a run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Smash hit Bull by Mike Bartlett gets back in the ring for a limited season 11th December 2015 to 9th January 2016

Artistic Director David Lan said: "Peter Brook’s staging of The Mahabharata is acknowledged as one of the seminal theatre works of the 20th century. Now, in Battlefield, he and his longtime collaborators Marie-Hélène Estienne and Jean-Claude Carrière explore the contemporary immediacy of just one of its many stories: the moment when the heroes of the epic face each other before a great battle. Peter and his team are among our closest theatre friends. We’re as delighted as always to welcome them to the Young Vic.

"Eimear McBride’s astonishingly original novel A Girl is a Half-formed Thing has been a huge popular success. Audiences have been just as enthusiastic about director Annie Ryan’s adaptation. We know our audiences will be just as moved and impressed by Aoife Duffin’s amazing solo performance.

"Earlier this year, we extended the run of Bull in the Maria. It immediately sold out. Clare Lizzimore’s production went on to win an Olivier Award. We’re thrilled we’re able to bring it back one more time. Watch out for further news on 2016 at the Young Vic."

Public booking opens on 5th August at 10am.
