Zizi Strallen & Matt Lee to star in Mary Poppins UK tour

It has been confirmed that Zizi Strallen and Matt Lee will star as Mary and Bert in the UK tour of Mary Poppins.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh said: "It’s hard to believe that it is already 11 years since Mary Poppins first landed on the London stage. My goodness……time flies even faster than our beloved Nanny!

"I’m delighted to be bringing her back to the UK and for the first time to Dublin, after spreading her magic around the world. Since we originally staged the production we have found even more magical ways to stage this timeless tale.

"I’m also thrilled to have cast yet another of the extraordinarily talented Strallen family in the role of Mary and pair her with one of the most brilliant Berts we have been fortunate to find worldwide. I know Zizi and Matt will be practically perfect in every way and a show-stopping tour de force."

The new Mary Poppins UK tour opens at the Leicester Curve on 13th October 2015. The creative team is led by director Richard Eyre with co-direction and choreography from Matthew Bourne. Co-choreography is by Stephen Mear with set and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Paul Groothuis and orchestrations by William David Brohn.

The international tour of Mary Poppins is directed by Anthony Lyn and James Powell with original choreography adapted by Geoffrey Garratt. Musical supervision is by Stephen Brooker.

Mary Poppins originally opened in the West End in 2004 where it ran for three years whilst the Broadway production ran for over six years. The show has subsequently toured Australia, New Zealand, the U.S, the UK and has been seen by over 11 million people.

Zizi follows in the footsteps of her older sister Scarlett who famously starred as Mary in the West End, on Broadway and in Australia. She is currently starring as Lana in Matthew Bourne's production of The Car Man.

Zizi's extensive theatre credits include: Demeter in Cats (Palladium/UK tour), Penny Pingleton in Hairspray (Leicester Curve), Kathy Cratchitt in Scrooge (Palladium), Zaneeta in The Music Man (Chichester), understudy Lisa in Dirty Dancing (Aldwych), understudy Regina in Rock of Ages (Shaftesbury/Garrick), Meg in Merrily We Roll Along (Menier/Harold Pinter) and Mona Lipschitz in Chicago (Leicester Curve).

Matt previously played Bert in the Australian production of Mary Poppins. His additional theatre credits include: We Will Rock You, Rent and Grease.
