Jennifer DiNoia takes over as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway

Jennifer DiNoia has taken over as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked with her first performance expected to take place tomorrow (Thursday 19th March).

DiNoia takes over from Christine Dwyer who returned to the musical when lead Caroline Bowman sustained an injury. DiNoia is expected to star as Elphaba until Bowman is able to return to the show (date TBC).

Last Sunday (15th March) DiNoia played her final performance in Wicked's first U.S. Tour which concluded its ten year run in Los Angeles. She also recently concluded her London run as Elphaba at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, meaning DiNoia has lead three different companies of Wicked in as many months.

DiNoia joins Kara Lindsay as Glinda, Kathy Fitzgerald as Madame Morrible and Matt Shingledecker as Fiyero. The actress originally joined the Chicago production of Wicked as a swing before becoming an understudy for Elphaba and then taking over as standby Elphaba. DiNoia then transferred to the Broadway production of Wicked as standby Elphaba for two and a half years.

Next she joined the Australian and Korean productions of Wicked before taking over as lead Elphaba in the musical’s second U.S. Tour. DiNoia briefly returned to the Broadway production last year before joining the London company as lead Elphaba. Her other theatre credits include: understudy Scaramouche in the U.S. premiere of We Will Rock You (Las Vegas, NV) and understudy Ali in Mamma Mia! (1st U.S. Tour).

Wicked continues to run in the West End and tour the UK. The London cast features Emma Hatton and Savannah Stevenson as Elphaba and Glinda whilst Ashleigh Gray and Emily Tierney play the roles in the UK Tour.
