CONFIRMED: Gary Barlow's Calendar Girls musical to premiere at the Leeds Grand Theatre in November

Following reports from the Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye, it has been confirmed that Gary Barlow's musical adaptation of The Calendar Girls will premiere at the Leeds Grand Theatre.

The show will begin performances on 14th November for a limited season until 12th December 2015.

Entitled The Girls, the production will then transfer to The Lowry in Salford for a second out-of-town tryout between 13th and 30th January 2016. Tickets are now available.

A workshop for The Girls - which Barlow has co-written with Tim Firth - was held last weekend at a village hall in the Yorkshire Dales. The cast included Debbie Chazen, Sally Dexter, Michelle Dotrice, Rachel Lumberg, Claire Moore, Joanna Riding and Harriet Thorpe. Casting for the show's premiere is yet to be confirmed.

Inspired by the story of a group of ladies, the Calendar Girls, the musical comedy shows life in their Yorkshire village, how it happened, the effect on husbands, sons and daughters and how a group of ordinary ladies achieved something extraordinary. Barlow and Firth both grew up in the same village and have been friends for twenty five years.

Barlow has written 14 number one singles, is 6 times winner of the Ivor Novello Award and has sold over 50 million records worldwide. Firth has won the Olivier Award and the UK Theatre Award for Best Musical and Best Play and the Comedy Film Award for Calendar Girls.

Barlow's musical Finding Neverland is currently in previews on Broadway starring Matthew Morrison, Laura Michelle Kelly, Teal Wicks and Kelsey Grammer. The musical officially opens on 15th April at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
