Created with immense detail and performed by a stellar cast, Matthew Bourne's Edward Scissorhands is breathtakingly beautiful from beginning to end.

Described as a "modern fairy tale", this stage production is inspired by Tim Burton's 1990 film. Joyful but sad, the piece tells the story of a boy created by a lonely inventor who dies leaving him alone and unfinished with only scissors for hands.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Edward Scissorhands, but when a show is devised, directed and choreographed by the genius that is Matthew Bourne you know you are in safe hands. Bourne always works with such depth and precision.

His work transports you to a different world; in fact the stage is so alive it's impossible not to miss something. I can completely understand why so many have returned to see this show again and again as I could have done with a remote control to stop and re-wind several times - I didn't want to miss anything!

Along with a neat design and fun costumes, the entire company are tremendous. Each cast member performs with flair; it's nice to see a stage bursting with so much character. Bourne has clearly had a bit of fun with the piece, and the cast certainly excel at every opportunity.

Edward Scissorhands doesn't outstay its welcome, I found myself so entranced that the two hour performance flew by. As snow fell over the audience during the finale many jumped to their feet (myself included). I can't remember the last time I saw so many smiley faces and heard so many comments such as "wasn't that wonderful?!" whilst leaving a theatre. Edward Scissorhands makes blissfully easy watching, its warmth is irresistible.
