Hackney Empire will present Jack and the Beanstalk as their 2015 Christmas pantomime. In time honoured Hackney tradition, the production will be written and directed by Creative Director Susie McKenna and composed by Steven Edis, their 17th pantomime for the Empire.
Last year’s production of Mother Goose which starred Clive Rowe marked Hackney Empire’s best-selling pantomime to date and was seen by over 50,000 people from all over London. Jack and the Beanstalk runs between 21st November 2015 and 3rd January 2016.
Set in the kingdom of Hackneydale, Hackney Empire’s production follows the story of young Jack who is tempted by a mysterious stranger into swapping the family’s trusty old cow for a handful of magic beans. An offer surely happy-go-lucky Jack can’t refuse?
In true Hackney style the production will feature outlandish costumes, bonkers baddies and glittering goodies, buckets of silliness, hilarious jokes and full-on show stopping tunes performed alongside a stunning live band.
Susie McKenna said “We are a family here at Hackney Empire and so to welcome Clive Rowe and Sharon D Clarke back into the fold in 2014 with Mother Goose as Hackney’s bestselling pantomime ever was incredible. So many people both on stage, behind the scenes and in the audience have been with Steve Edis and me for the whole journey. It has been an amazing 17 years of Hackney pantomimes and I can’t wait to get started on the next one. Jack and the Beanstalk is one of the best and oldest rags to riches tales and we’re already busy relocating it to Hackneydale.”
Tickets are now on sale and casting is to be announced later in the year.
